Experience the nature, history & culture of Unzen at the region's leading resort hotel

Japan's first ever designated National Park, the mountain resort of Unzen is also a recognised UNESCO Global Geopark. As a resort hotel with history spanning over a hundred years in the local area, the surrounding landscape of the Unzen jigoku (literally, 'hells' - volcanic ground with plumes of hot spring steam rising upwards from the soil), truly gives it the appearance of a painting. To complement this, all guest rooms are equipped with their very own hot spring bath, and are of Japanese-Western style, all fully renovated in 2018.
Experience breathtaking views of the jigoku and stunning natural surroundings from the large window or terrace of your room, or whilst soaking in your very own hot spring bath.
Cherish a unique experience that can only be enjoyed here, at the Unzen Kyushu Hotel.
Enjoy a fusion course dinner made using seasonal ingredients from the local area, combining traditional Japanese and European cuisine.

Dining

Enjoy an unforgettable meal in a dining room rich in history.

Experience the essence of Unzen in a richly historical setting, with traditional European cuisine
utilising local seasonal ingredients

Wouldn't it be tiresome to eat nothing but Japanese food for the entire duration of your stay in Japan?
If you've had enough of Japanese restaurants in the cities, why not choose the Unzen Kyushu Hotel for a refreshing taste of delicious European-style cuisine - loved and nurtured here in the countryside for over a hundred years.
Guests staying in our standard rooms can enjoy both dinner and breakfast served in our classic main dining room, '1917' - named after its founding year.
The dining room was revived in the year 2000, based on photographs from the time it was established.
The restaurant's classic interior provides an atmosphere that is simply overflowing with the history and culture of Unzen.

We use only carefully selected ingredients from Unzen, Nagasaki and the Shimabara Peninsula.
The restaurant was founded by a chef specialising in Western-style cuisine along the Shanghai Route. As the hotel was originally a popular choice for foreigners who were staying in Japan for long periods, our course menu is based on the concept of 'a worldwide food-traveller's journal'.
Commencing with a course of vegetables from Unzen and the Shimabara Peninsula, in classic hot spring resort style, guests will then be served sashimi, fresh from the waters of Nagasaki. Following this, guests can enjoy a variety of mouthwatering flavours from France and Italy.
Our main dish consists of lean Nagasaki beef, adding a touch of an American steakhouse to your meal.
Our unique course composition comes to a close with a return to Japanese cuisine, with the final dish served being an arrangement of fresh rice.
We pride ourselves on serving diverse, locally sourced cuisine that transcends genres.
Complement your courses with our recommended wines (please note that drinks served at dinner and breakfast are charged).

Breakfast is a set menu with a choice of Japanese or Western dishes, and is served in the main dining room.
The main dish on our Western-style breakfast menu is hashed beef - one of our longstanding specialities.
We will do our best to accommodate dietary requirements. Please inform us in advance.

Service おもてなしの心は“大切な友人を招くように”

A hundred years & more of the warm heart of hospitality - by going back to basics

The hotel brochure from the Taisho era reads: 'Think of the hotel as part of your home and the staff as your close brothers'.
It is this same spirit that we continue to keep in mind.
Emphasising the friendliness of the countryside rather than the sophistication of the city, our 'considerate but laid-back' ethos is to bring natural smiles and conversation to our valued guests.
Our goal is that our guests will feel as though they are visiting friends in the mountains, or at a holiday home.
Hanare Villa guests will be served dinner featuring upgraded, premium quality ingredients.
With the highest quality fish from Nagasaki, the main dish will also consist of Grand Champion beef from Hirano - a farm in Unzen and winner of many of the highest awards for Nagasaki Wagyu beef.
Dinner will be served in a private dining area, 'grillé', located close to your accommodation.
Breakfast will also be served privately, with a choice of Japanese or Western-style set menus.
